Dear Friends,
With the summer upon us, and you
begin to think about planning your next vacation, I wanted to share with you
the exciting things happening here at Pelican Bay at Lucaya. We've seen movie
stars, upgraded our facilities, introduced great new packages and unveiled a
new Web site.
Not one to rest on our laurels, we continue to deliver on
our promise to our guests to be the premier boutique resort on Grand Bahama
Island. Recently, we completed a full renovation and upgrade of our lobby area,
added a heated pool, and made changes to our housekeeping team that will insure
an even higher level of service our guests have come to expect. And, we are not
done yet. In the coming months, we will be making even more upgrades to the
property and our amenities.
Pelican Bay is an oasis of calm and
tranquility, yet just steps away you will find sandy beaches, shopping,
restaurants, golf, tennis, spa facilities, incredible water sports and more. I
hope as you begin to plan your summer escapes you will take a look at our new
packages and come spend your time with us.

Throughout the 1700's, pirates roamed the waters of The Bahamas. They
preyed on galleons carrying riches to and from the New World. These buccaneers
collected treasures and became the subjects of island lore. Because of its
history, it seems only natural Disney film makers used Grand Bahama Island as
their backdrop to film the sequels to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie
starring Johnny Depp.
Throughout the months of filming, cast and crew called Pelican Bay at
Lucaya home. The resort's Yellow Tails Bar & Grille was a popular hot spot
for everyone after a long day of shooting scenes aboard the Flying Dutchman,
the ship featured in part two.
Many of
the locals were able to get up close with the stars and have their brush with
fame, including being cast as extras. Greg Vincent, who operates bone fishing
charters from Pelican Bay, starred as a member of the East India Company
militia. Many guests to Pelican Bay have had the pleasure to ride around the
islands with Paddy, who provides taxi services. She spent the months shuttling
make up artists and stars from set locations and Pelican Bay. She even got a
picture with Johnny Depp.
The
crew shot both part two and part three during their time on the island. Pirates
of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest hits theaters in July. |

Pelican
Bay at Lucaya is famous for its romantic atmosphere and is popular for
honeymoons and destination weddings. A key reason for this distinction is our
team, and in particular, the efforts of Rene Gibson, our night executive
housekeeper.
Rene
provides very special arrangements for our honeymooners, newlyweds and other
romance guests. She makes special suite set-ups with red roses, candles, mood
music and any other special touches friends and family may wish to include for
the bride and groom on their wedding night.
Rene
received special praise from Disney's executive director for her outstanding
service, warm welcoming smile and greeting upon their return to the resort each
night during their stay for the filming of the sequels to the Pirates of the
Caribbean. |

Each
year, the Bahamas honors outstanding hospitality and tourism industry leaders
with the annual Cacique Awards. The purpose of the Cacique Awards is to
recognize the roles played by individuals and organizations whose performance
have consistently made a positive impact on the quality and the growth of
tourism in the Bahamas. This year, Pelican Bay is excited to announce that
Marva Munroe, our director of sales, was honored with the Sales Executive of
the Year award.
Marva
has served in the hospitality industry for the past 26 years, including the
last seven years with Pelican Bay. Her efforts have helped the resort achieve
its status as a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons.
Prior
to joining Pelican Bay at Lucaya, Marva headed the Grand Bahama Island
Promotion Board. She was involved in organizing special interest events such as
the Grand Bahama Vintage and Historic Car Race, the Grand Bahama 5000 Foot
Race, the Michelin Long Driving Championship, and many other island-wide
events.
Congratulations Marva on a well deserved honor! |
