The Legend of Pelican Bay

Legend has it an old brown pelican lost his bearings on a fishing mission and discovered the place. Intoxicated by its beauty, he built a magnificent perch on a canal overlooking the harbor. The sunsets were glorious and the fishing fine.

One day a loud crash disturbed his afternoon nap. A dilapidated old ship, the Bloody Bones, crashed into his perch while attempting to drop anchor.

Onboard was a one eyed pirate, Capt. Curly Nutt, and an eccentric English gardener named Whistler. Atop the mast, in full glory, reigned a bee - u - tee - ful white pelican in a fancy dress and big colorful shoes. They called her Delphine.

The tattered ship was unloaded of its cargo - exotic tropical plants, pots of colorful paints, pillaged jewels and Capt. Nutt's special stash of spiced rum.

This motley crew settled into to their island home and built a new kind of nest. At sunset the blow of the conch signaled the end of the day and called all to come and play.

Soon the Old Brown Pelican's little piece of paradise became a true Bahamian original - a haven that attracted all sorts of colorful characters - rum runners, fellow pirates, merchants, artists, musicians - travelers from near and afar, and yes, even a crazy talking parrot with the soul of a Pelican.

By all accounts it was a grand and happy place to be.

That's how our story began. The rest was left to us...

We named this piece of paradise Pelican Bay after that wandering old pelican.

We hired a fellow explorer and Danish Viking to build the place.

We planted a magnificent garden oasis.

We feathered our nest in creature comforts and put the art back into hospitality.

We welcome all with the blow of the conch and a smile.
